Creation of the Subspace

Because the Three Heavens and the Nine Hells are perfectly balanced and evenly matched, neither of them can gain any ground in the Eternal War. This led to the gradual creation of the Subspace, a no-man's-land in between the two. As the Subpace grew, Mr. Game & Watch was manifested out of the souls lost there. In an effort to stop the Eternal War and halt the growth of the Subspace, Sephiroth intervened and created the Defenders, a group of resistance fighters led by General Ike to drive the forces of Kirby and Jigglypuff out of the Subspace.
