Link was originally one of Kirby's champions, as he is very strong and cool. However, he was banished to the Outer Wilds because he wouldn't tell Kirby funny jokes, as he is mute. He now spends his days hunting monsters and supplies Mario with Keese eyeballs when he runs out of the eyeballs of his enemies.
